Walk with me as I rediscover myself on the canvas
I am Babita, a Fine Artist based in Singapore, creating art that intertwines emotions, storytelling, and personal transformation.
My artistic journey began as a means of rediscovering my identity after leaving a demanding 18-year corporate career to embrace motherhood fully. While stepping away from my professional identity brought fulfilment, it also challenged me to confront a sense of loss and rediscover who I was beyond the roles I played. What defined me? What were my dreams? I realised that somewhere along the way, I had begun to lose sight of who I was and that I had quietly put away pieces of myself.

Navigating the joys and complexities of raising my children, alongside my search for myself, was when art came into my life - not as a planned pursuit, but as a way to process emotions I could not always put into words. I was learning the profound value of resilience, hope and the need for creative expression as a means of healing and growth. Art emerged as my sanctuary, a space where I could process emotions, express untold stories, and reconnect with parts of myself I had long set aside. It became a powerful tool for reflection and renewal, shaping not just the artist I am today but the person I continue to grow into with every brushstroke.

My Mantra
My work is deeply rooted in my journey of self-discovery. I specialise in blending abstract and realistic elements, creating layered compositions that evoke emotions of strength, self-discovery, and connection. I begin each piece with a meditative approach, laying down textures and abstract forms that serve as the foundation of the story. Using a combination of acrylics, oils, and mixed media, I gradually build layers, letting intuition guide the process. Each brushstroke, mark, and layer evolves organically, in a way capturing the balance between chaos and harmony that mirrors the complexities of life.

Often inspired by the journey of life, I incorporate Animals, Portraits or Flowers, using them as symbols of identity, resilience, and transformation. Using Vibrant colours and textured elements and creating contrasts between abstraction and realism I create a dynamic interplay of emotion and form.

I continuously immerse myself in celebrating emotions and the beauty found in imperfections, thereby inviting others to find their own stories within my canvas. Whether it’s evoking a sense of belonging or inspiring hope, my process is rooted in finding meaning, balance, and beauty in life’s uncertainties.

My Inspiration
Bold Strokes, Limitless Imagination
My art is inspired by the universal quest for identity, deeply personal yet universal journey of self-discovery, growth, and transformation. I am drawn to the idea of uncovering the layers of who we are, peeling back expectations, labels and roles we take on to reveal the essence of our true selves, to find the core of our being. Life often shapes us through experiences, responsibilities, and the identities we assume, sometimes making us lose sight of who we are at our core.

I hope to inspire viewers to push boundaries constantly and to continuously experiment and explore.I want my paintings to resonate with those on this journey, encouraging them to look beyond the surface and connect with the deeper, often unspoken parts of themselves.
