Water & Light

Water & Light - A Study of Scale and Presence

Water & Light explores the relationship between individual and the space around them. Stripping back layers of colour, texture and movement, the series brings together water, light and the quiet presence of the koi. Water becomes a landscape with unrestricted boundaries, shifting between surface and depth, reflection and concealment, movement and stillness. Within this vastness, the koi occupies very little space, yet its presence becomes more pronounced because of the space surrounding it.

Through this tension between expansiveness and intimacy, the series reflects on how we experience ourselves within the spaces we inhabit, how scale can create perspective and how making space can change what we notice. The paintings create a quieter way of looking, leaving space for each viewer to bring their own sense of place, distance and connection
